Presidency Could Be Democrats' By The Fall
The Northeastern University Presidency, that is. Boston Magazine reports that two active Democrats are candidates in "The Race For That Parking Spot Behind Churchill."
Paul Grogan, President of the Boston Foundation, and always considered a potential mayoral candidate, and Alan Solomont, a wealthy Dem who was considered for the UMass Presidency, could both potentially have a tremendous positive affect on this group if they are selected.
The article supposes that the two are being considered not for their academic strengths, but for their fundraising prowess. While this seems like an odd choice of priorities at first, I think I like the idea. The academics should be left to the Deans and departments, and considering our ever-rising tuition that comes with seemingly little in the way of benefits, I am fully in favor of a fundraising expert. Especially if he can kick some of that over to the hockey and basketball teams.
Of course, the reason I am calling isn't because they are fundraisers, it's because they are Democrats. If there is anything I have learned over the past few months it is that we suffer from an apathy problem here, this university needs an injection of politics. If our President is a prominant Democrat it can only mean good things for this group.

Governor's Race Updates (Finally)
We know we have been slacking off a bit, but starting now, this is going to be a busy blog again.
The Globe had two interesting--and important--stories on the Governor's race.
The first is that Christy Mihos has announced he will run for governor as an independant. This is good news for the Patrick and Reilly campaigns, as Healey will surely be hurt by Mihos attacking her from the right. Mihos is extremely wealthy, and by spending it on TV time--he's already hired a firm to produce ads--he may affect the election more by changing the public's perception of the candidates, than he will by garnering votes. If this is case, then Democrats can only hope he spends his efforts attacking Healey and not our candidates.
If you don't believe me, just look how happy Deval looks now that Mihos is in the race (and on his left):

The second piece of good news is that the Globe reports Deval again had a successful month of fundraising. Deval's $305,000 in February beat Tom Reilly by $55,000, though Reilly still has a bankroll of $3.9M to Deval's $800,000. Plus Reilly's got lots of experience and grew up on a farm, he thought you might be curious.
